Senior Financial Analyst, Technology
BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Financial Analyst, Technology is responsible for developing and delivering clear, actionable business and financial insights that enable leadership visibility into the effectiveness and impact of CarMax’s technology investments. This role plays a critical part in driving the annual budgeting process, as well as ongoing forecasting, variance analysis, and financial optimization throughout the year.
The position partners closely with Technology senior leadership and Corporate Finance to ensure alignment with CarMax’s operational and strategic objectives. In addition, the role supports benchmarking of IT metrics and implementing of accounting and finance best practices.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze various components of spend vs budget and provide insights to Technology leaders in support of achieving short and long term goals.
- Develop financial models for tracking new initiatives and enhance existing reporting and processes.
- Play a key role in the annual budget process for Technology including analysis of year over year trends.
- Provide analytical support related to headcount monitoring, contingent workforce population, and vendor spend to create efficiencies and cost savings opportunities.
- Identify risks and opportunities and develop clear, actionable recommendations for leadership.
- Evaluate new investments through cost/benefit analysis and ensure appropriate financial governance of existing investments.
- Partner cross-functionally with a variety of teams including FP&A, Accounting, and Strategic Sourcing & Procurement.
- Support month-end close activities such as accrual preparation, variance explanations, and other accounting functions, as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and work collaboratively.
- Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to draw insights from large, complicated data sets.
- Demonstrated experience building complex financial models with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management within and outside of Technology.
- Proven ability to influence others and drive change at various levels.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
- High degree of customer service and professionalism.
- Curiosity and desire to learn, problem solve, and improve processes.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or similar field, preferred
- 5+ years of experience in finance, business analytics, budgeting, or similar field
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and financial modeling skills
- Excellent communication, partnering, presentation, and influencing skills
- Advanced Excel and strong PowerPoint skills, required
- Basic understanding of technology concepts, preferred
- Apptio experience, preferred
Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, VA and Associates will work onsite 5 days per week.
